Deal ‘Agreed’ on New Junior Doctors Contract

After an extended eight-day period of talks, a deal is reported to have been agreed upon between the government and the British Medical Association (BMA).

Fresh talks took place last week and were extended early into this week following a plea from the Academy of the Royal Colleges. These talks were viewed as the last chance to get an agreement between both sides and come after the first-ever full walkout of junior doctors.

The offer will now be put to a vote amongst BMA members and only if there is agreement amongst the union will the contract be implemented as of later this year. The contract could still be rejected but the agreement between sides on the matter is seen as a major breakthrough.
